Wilton Mom & Me Cake Decorating Class

Miya turned 6 years old this month. Grandma gave her a certificate for the Wilton Cake Decorating School in Darien, Illinois. We are so lucky to live so close to the Wilton School. They have a few different “Mom & Me” classes set up a year. An adult can take a child for a fun outing of baking. This class was $65 for both of us.  We went to the “Spring Basket Cake Class”. There were a total of 6 pairs in the class. Most were moms and one was a grandma. There was one boy aged 11, and the other girls ranged in ages from 5-11.  The class was scheduled from 10am – 3pm with a 30 minute break. Our classes ended late  at 4 and the instructor mentioned that there was more that could have been covered. This was a very ambitious class for one adult and a young child to finish. Luckily all the children were great and lasted through the entire class. I know that after 6 hours I was TIRED.  All in all it was a fun class to take with my Miya and I would definitely do it again.  She loved it and it was a great memory for us.

The cake was decorated with fondant. I have never used fondant before. Miya loved it since it is just like playdoh.  There is a lot of fondant on the finished cake that I would not recommend eating since it is so much sugar.  Here are some pictures of our day.

I can’t say that I would ever make this type of cake at home. It was a lot of work. I see how you could make beautiful theme cakes, but I do not have the patience or the talent.  We defiantly had a great time and will look forward to taking another Wilton class.

It was Delicious!!!!!!.  Dad and Sam gobbled it up that night.

I would recommend the Wilton School. There is a huge retail store next to the school. It is always closed on Sundays.
